Claude can now take work across devices and act on your computer
Anthropic has introduced two meaningful updates to Claude: Dispatch, which lets you assign work to Claude from your phone or desktop in a persistent thread, and computer use, which lets Claude operate your computer directly when a connector is not available.
Here are the key updates:
- Computer use extends Claude beyond connectors: When Claude cannot access a tool through a native integration, it can fall back to using your actual computer by clicking, typing, opening apps, and navigating workflows on screen.
- Dispatch creates a more continuous workflow: You can hand Claude a task from your phone, leave it running, and return to your desktop later in the same thread. Anthropic positions this as a practical way to assign work in the moment instead of waiting until you are back at your desk.
- Limitation: Anthropic is explicit that computer use is still a research preview. It is slower and less reliable than direct integrations, may require retries on more complex tasks, and currently depends on the Claude desktop app staying open and active.
- This is not a fully hands-free feature: Permission is required before Claude can access apps, some sensitive apps are blocked by default, and Anthropic advises against using the computer for highly sensitive work such as banking, healthcare, or legal matters.
