Google brings a 24/7 AI agent into Gemini
At Google I/O this week, Google introduced Gemini Spark, a new 24/7 AI agent that can handle tasks across your Google apps and keep working after you close your laptop or lock your phone.
Spark is part of a bigger Gemini push. Google also introduced a faster model, a morning briefing feature, video creation, and a more visual app experience for Gemini. Together, these updates point to a more practical version of Gemini, one that can brief you, help you create, and keep routine work moving throughout the day.
Here are the key updates:
- Gemini Spark can handle repeatable workflows on your behalf. You can set it to review monthly credit card statements for hidden subscriptions, monitor school emails and turn them into a daily digest, or synthesize meeting notes from emails and chats into a polished Google Doc with a follow-up email drafted. Because Spark runs on a dedicated cloud instance, you can assign a task from your phone, close the app, and come back later to find it done.
- Daily Brief turns Gemini into a morning briefing assistant. It pulls from Gmail, Calendar, and other connected apps to highlight urgent updates, upcoming events, and suggested next steps before the day starts.
- Gemini 3.5 Flash is the first model in Google's next generation. The focus is stronger intelligence with faster responses. Flash is now the default model powering the Gemini app and is available across all plans.
- The Gemini app is becoming more visual and interactive. Google's new Neural Expressive design brings richer responses with imagery, timelines, and dynamic graphics. Gemini Live is also more integrated, making it easier to move between typing, speaking, and reviewing outputs.
- Gemini Omni brings video creation into the Gemini experience. Users can turn text, images, and video prompts into video outputs, upload footage, apply templates, change backgrounds, add effects, and create AI avatars inside Gemini.
Gemini Spark is rolling out first to trusted testers, with a beta planned for U.S.-based Google AI Ultra subscribers. Daily Brief is rolling out to Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers, starting in the U.S.
Agentic AI is moving into the default tools people already use every day: email, calendar, documents, and slides. That makes adoption less about testing a new AI tool and more about redesigning recurring team workflows.
