Google just brought its Gemini desktop app to Windows after its launch on Mac in April 2026.

The app runs separately from the Gemini web page you might already use in your browser.

Here's What's New for Windows Users

  • A single keyboard shortcut brings Gemini up over anything you're doing. Press Alt+Space while you're in Word, Slack, or your inbox, and Gemini opens on top of your current screen. Close it, and you're back exactly where you left off.
  • It pulls straight from the Google apps you already use. Ask it to draft a project summary, and it can pull information directly from Gmail and Google Drive.
  • Gemini Spark can run a task on its own. Google describes it as a personal AI agent you hand a multi-step job to, then check back on later, rather than a chat window you have to babysit.
  • You can create images and video without opening a separate tool. Nano Banana handles images, Gemini Omni handles video, both from inside the same desktop app.

The app is free and available now for Windows 10 and 11, on both x64 and ARM64 machines.

Google says this is a first version. More native desktop features are still rolling out, so today's release is just a starting point.

You can download Gemini for Windows directly from Google.

What to Try

Install it, then press Alt+Space the next time you're mid-task and need a quick answer, a rewrite, or a fact check.

Any leader can install this tool on their own machine today and start using it for real work.
